Jeremy Pelzer at PolitickerCO has the story:
Second Congressional District Republican nominee Scott Starin said Colorado Republican Party Chair Dick Wadhams “was spread too thin” this past election cycle by running Bob Schaffer’s U.S. Senate campaign while remaining party chair.
He also criticized the state party for not paying enough attention to state legislative races, and blasted national Republicans for focusing on U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave’s (R-Fort Morgan) re-election campaign while ignoring him and other long-shot GOP congressional candidates.
“(Wadhams) says nobody is going to come forward and say that they disagreed with his decision to stay on as party chair and run the Senate campaign,” Starin said. “I definitely disagree with that. I think he was spread too thin. [rsb emphasis]
That comment in and of itself wouldn’t be bad, but later in the interview Starin seems to realize that Dick may end up staying on as Party Chair. His cowardly backtrack:
“I think (Wadhams) brings a lot to the party, and I would probably vote to keep him on if it came down to that,” Starin said. “But I will also air my differences with him that I think we spread ourselves too thin here and this is the way I’d like to go forward.”
So Starin thinks that Wadhams all but lost the election for the Republicans, but that he’s done a lot for the party. He also thinks Wadhams spread himself too thin, but that he’ll likely vote for Wadhams’ re-election. Makes sense to me!
Starin is not pleased with the local GOP, but the real target of Starin’s ire is the National Republican Congressional Committee, and his criticism is even funnier than his campaign ad that featured a space shuttle launch:
“They spent millions of dollars on Musgrave’s (race) – I mean, if they gave me $20,000, we could’ve had [sic] extended our media buy, we could’ve done a direct mailing to targeted areas,” Starin said. “If there was more attention paid to the congressional races here, (John) McCain would have done better and Schaffer would’ve done better,” Starin said. “Because who’s in the district every day but the congressional candidates, and they’re out there speaking.” [rsb emphasis]
So basically Scott Starin thinks that if he’d just had $20,000, he could have had a shot. Yeah Scott, that’s why you lost. The NRCC should have spent their money on a safe Democrat district rather than trying to protect one of the safest GOP districts in the country.
Meanwhile, back here in the real world, Scott Starin has probably run his last race as a Republican nominee for any office–let alone the U.S. House of Representatives.

Starin in no way indicates that he had any shot at willing.
He makes the obvious point that $20,000 for his campaign would have done a lot more for Schaffer and McCain than it did by being sent to Musgrave.
He is talking about raising the GOP vote in his district, not about winning.
.
Because if only they had gotten more Boulder Republicans out to the polls. That’s why they lost.
.
Maybe, considering his circumstances, he was thinking like most 3rd party candidates.
Most are not serious about winning; I was the exception.
Most just try to get more votes than the previous election.
.
his party qualifies for the ballot in the 2nd District next time …
.
That is, if he’s really over as a Republicrat.
.
exactly how much media does $20K buy in a U.S. House race? And might that $20K have prompted Starin’s opponent to pump in $200K in response?
could’ve had [sic] doubled his cable buy with that!
Polis probably would’ve thrown down $2 million in response, though.
We all saw Starin’s TV spots though, remember? The best thing the party could’ve had [sic] done was taken $20,000 from Starin to keep him off the air. Thrown it all into bus benches.
They were that bad?
Polis Phony is the best, er uh, worst?

The attendance reports at a charter school? That would be a great issue if he were running against an incumbent local school board member.
